I’m watching Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, for the umpteenth time.

Christopher Plummer is marvellous as the scenery-chewing General Chang and there are some super one-liners from McCoy and Chekov. And yet… I keep unintentionally comparing it to more recent iterations of Trek and it’s starting to fall short.

This is completely personal taste, so please don’t attack. While the story is solid, it’s clear that SFX, make-up and scripts have come a long way since 1991.

Do we expect more from our sci-fi now?
