Longstanding readers will know all about my obsession with all things Japanese and my frequent visits there – before all my travel plans were decimated by a global pandemic.
A small inconvenience when you put it into the context of a life-threatening virus, but a source of sadness all the same. But – there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Taking a punt on the Japanese government further relaxing entry rules in the next couple of months, we’ve once again re-scheduled a trip for the end of May. Ten days and nights in Tokyo, to catch up with local friends, eat myself into a coma and generally just soak up the vibes.
This trip has been moved four or five times already, so it will feel like an achievement if it actually goes ahead!
Obviously, a lot could happen between now and then, but it’s nice to have something to look forward to. We reminisced about previous visits to Japan last night; all the little things we love about our visits, all the places we’ve been and what we’re most looking forward to next time.
Obviously, food is figuring pretty high on my list, as is nights out in Shinjuku Ni-Chome and afternoons soaking in the onsen. Watch this space and prepared to be bored rigid as I gush and/or complain bitterly.
