Rumours of a March Apple event continue to spread, some much more detailed (and optimistic!) than others. I remain hopeful that Apple will do the right thing and launch a refreshed iPad Mini.
I wouldn’t say I’m obsessed, but my gaze tends to land on any online mention of the iPad Mini faster than seagulls on an abandoned bag of chips.
It only get some upgrade love every few years and now would be an excellent time to give it a bump. As far as I can see, there are two broad possibilities here. Firstly, there’s a simple and conservative upgrade, featuring minimal spec bumps in essentially an identical form factor. Smaller bezels will make for a bigger screen, but that’s about it.
That would be nice and I wouldn’t be too disappointed.
Secondly, there’s the iPad Mini Pro option, where they release a mini version of the iPad Pro, featuring its unique design, as well as interoperability with the Apple Pencil 2.
That would be amazing and I’d place my order before Tim Cook had finished gushing about it onstage.
If there’s an event (albeit pre-recorded), then I think there’s a good chance we’ll see a more significant update to the iPad mini. If they go with a simpler series of press releases across a single week, then I think we’re in for a slightly better, if boring, mode. It’s only March 6th, so they’ve plenty of time to get those invitations out to the usual suspects.
I guess only time will tell.
