I’ve been amusing myself by looking through my holiday photos again. There’s nothing nicer than spending a snowy February Sunday morning looking at sunsets, beaches and blue skies.
Regular readers will know I can’t get enough of steam rooms, saunas and hot tubs. And Japan has the most excellent collection of these in the form of onsen. I make sure I get to spend plenty of time soaking and sweating every time we visit.
Once you get past the enforced nudity, (which takes moments, as you’re too busy focusing on the many rules and avoiding cultural offence), you can relax in an amazing hot spring or experience a Japanese sauna: complete with TV! And of course, all scrupulously clean. They really put saunas in the UK to shame.
I can’t wait until my next visit, whenever that is. I’ve already made a list of venues I want to revisit. And I e lined up an onsen buddy, in the form of one of our friends in Tokyo who also adores a good soak. @TheFrankFlyer is not a fan, so most of my visits are solo. Apart from the time I took my ten year old nephew and he took to it like a duck to water!
Roll on access to travel and creating new, albeit sweaty, memories.
