I woke up this morning with the most revolting, chesty cough. The kind you imagine 40-a-day smokers start their day with. Just before lighting up their first cigarette.
For clarity, I’m not a smoker. So this is an upsetting development. Given the year that’s in it, I’ve cancelled my dentist’s appointment this morning. I don’t have any other ‘worrying’ symptoms, but don’t think it’s smart (or polite) to head to the dentist with a cough.
It’s funny (or not) how my mind goes directly to the NHS list of COVID-19 symptoms just as soon as I don’t feel well. Cue slight panic. Then, rational me kicks in and I think about just how careful I’ve been for the past few months. Then another review of the symptoms: no temperature, no loss of of taste and smell. And so on…
In all probability, I have a nasty cold and nothing else.
That said, I’m not planning on leaving home today or tomorrow. Whatever this is, I need to knock it on the head so I can navigate next week’s rather challenging schedule. I’m not complaining that I’m busy at work – I know I’m lucky to have a job in 2020 – but I do wish I could spread it out a bit more evenly in the month.
Anyway, time for another coffee. This usually helps me feel better in the morning. Then I’ll have a look at what can be done from home today. I have to say, it’s a lot easier to stay at home and look after yourself during a national lockdown, when there are no entertainment alternatives open elsewhere.

Yikes! Take care, buddy. Hope it’s not the old 19!

Thank you! I was actually feeling loads better by last night. Had a magnificent sleep, and this morning I’m feeling great. I still have the sniffles, so I’m going to take it easy – but no sign of the worrying cough 👍🏼
