Beer Appreciation: Pineapple Milkshake IPA

Let me start by saying I ordered a single can of this on a whim and now totally regret not buying six! TheFrankFlyer brought it to my attention while he was organising our Waitrose delivery and thought it might be interesting.

Needless to say, there’s six of them on order for the next time we have Waitrose delivering essentials…

Where to start?

Well, this is an IPA unlike any other I’ve tasted. I’m not a huge fan of sweet or very fruity beers. The citrus kick of Brewdog’s ‘Clockwork Tangerine’ is about as fruity as I like to venture.

But this is something else. As soon as you crack open the can, you get a massive hit of fruitiness, like you’re leaning in to freshly-cut pineapple. My first sip was an eye-opener, as this beer manages to combine a fruit kick with a creamy mouthfeel – hence the reference to milkshake.

Now you might think that this makes for something you’d have occasionally, but I could really see myself having it regularly – at least in the summer months. Despite the mouthfeel and fruity notes, it’s very refreshing.

Kudos to Black Sheep brewery for this concoction!

I was in the middle of a ‘virtual beers’ session with some friends when I opened it and I gushed enthusiastically about just how good it was. I suspect my fellow beer-lovers will be trying it out as soon as they locate some.
