With another three weeks of lockdown (at least) to go, it’s only natural for my mind to wander to life after, and all the things I will do once we’re liberated!
One of the first things I want to do is have a sauna.
I know, weird – right?
But I really miss access to our communal sauna downstairs. It’s been a fantastic refuge, a place to relax and read. Perfect after a workout in the gym or a particularly challenging day. I’m one of the ew people who actually uses the sauna, so I usually have it to myself.
It’s also one of the few places in London where I’m unlikely to be forced to listen to other people’s music – either via shitty bluetooth speakers when out in the garden or via leakage from their shitty earbuds.
Anyway, I digress (and I rant too!)
Having a sauna in the evening always leads to a blissful night’s sleep. It gives me valuable reflection time, free of the distractions from electronic devices, and a chance to just breathe.
Anyway, it will open again, of that I’m sure. It’s just a matter of time. And I’ll be down there in a flash to enjoy it – hopefully by myself again.
It’s not a patch on the various saunas I’ve enjoyed in places like Helsinki, Stockholm and Tokyo, but it’s free and it’s just a few minutes’ walk from my living room. And once life has returned to some semblance of normality (whatever that is) I’m sure my travels will bring me to excellent saunas elsewhere.
And no, that’s not a photo of my sauna – I wish it was!
